About Farah Huq, LCPC

If you’re wanting to work through issues in your life, whether internal or external and/or relational, I may be able to help you achieve your goals. Sometimes we do not know where our strengths lie. It is when we are in a room with another person focusing on our needs and issues, can we access our strengths and move forward to a better place.

I firmly believe that everyone has it in themselves to be self-aware and address elements that are causing disharmony in their lives. And through my training I have tools that can help you with that.

I work with both individuals and couples. My specialties are couples and relationship issues, anxiety, mood disorders, career guidance, life transitions, family of origin issues, cultural themes, grief, and addictions.

I also work with women who are trying to manage and are working on figuring out the best path forward on myriad aspects of their lives, whether personal or professional. I also specialize in working with men over 30 who are experiencing a variety of issues and/or changes in their lives (i.e. divorce, career changes, grief).

Although I mainly incorporate a psychodynamic and relational approach, my approach to therapy relies on each unique client (individual or couple). That may mean incorporating CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques or mindfulness, or other modalities. depending on what each person is dealing with.

MY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. After completing my graduate work in Psychology I was a fellow at The Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. I also hold a Masters Degree in Public Policy from The University of Chicago. I worked in state government, in the non-profit sector, and in the corporate arena for 15 years. Being a career changer, I welcome working with individuals on a plethora of career issues. My past work experience helps me truly understand a vast array of career/job-related issues that people often face.

I deeply value the therapeutic relationship. My primary goals in a therapeutic setting are trust, respect, safety, and acceptance.

A major goal in my professional career is continual education and broadening the scope of my expertise. I am continually attending trainings, reading, and learning about concepts related to my field.

I encourage you to reach out to see if we can work together to ease some of the stress and tension that are affecting you.

I offer a 20 minute complimentary in-person or phone consultation to prospective clients.
